Project Description

The National Library of Medicine maintains several Twitter handles. The handles serve diverse audiences including disaster professionals, people over 50 with HIV/AIDS, underserved populations, toxicologists and environmental health professionals as well as K-12 science educators.
Responsibilities include locating and reviewing online free “no copyright permission required” image sources. The creation of a database of images that will be used by the various NLM SIS twitter handles in Microsoft Access or another platform. The secondary responsibilities include exploring the uses of the images on other National Library of Medicine social media outlets such as Facebook and Pinterest. Investigate sources of no cost, no copyright permission required video resources and their integration into the image database.

Additional Information

The applicant should be a completing or have completed either a Master of Library Science (MLS), or Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree. Knowledge of database structure, controlled vocabulary, copyright and Section 508 compliance is required. Prior experience with image collections a plus. The applicant should possess strong research skills in identifying new sources of free images and be sensitive to the needs of the audience and willing to learn more. Proactive and strategic thinking, plus the ability to solve problems in a constructive, responsive, and realistic manner is essential. The applicant will work independently with minimal supervision.
