|Project Title||Ms. Representation|
|Project Summary||Analyze and augment the contributions of women Members of the Provincial Assembly to the legislature’s agenda and oversight functions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.|
|Agency||Department of State|
|Number of Interns||2|
The women Members of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan are active participants in the democratic process whose contributions to governance sometimes go unrecognized. The women MPAs recently formed a formal caucus to increase their impact. This project seeks to document the contributions of women members and provide the caucus with analytic data to advance its work. The intern would:
• Conduct a comparative analysis of orders of the day, points of order, questions, motions, calling attention notices, resolutions, legislative bills, and amendments to determine the proportional contribution of women members to legislative business. This study would emulate research done by the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) at the national level.
• Liaise with the women’s caucus to identify other areas for research collaboration.
• Facilitate connections with women caucuses in U.S. state legislatures.
• Document successes and difficulties of the women's caucus.
