|Project Title||Mapping the Libyan Diaspora|
|Project Summary||The intern would produce a research paper on the locations and composition of significant Libyan diaspora communities in the United States.|
|Agency||Department of State|
|Number of Interns||2|
The intern would produce a research paper on the locations and composition of significant Libyan diaspora communities in the United States. This information would be useful for outreach purposes, such as for when Embassy staff travel to the United States and meet with Libyan communities. Such research should include to the extent possible: estimated population numbers, composition (such as students, academics, private sector, etc.), profiles of community leaders, U.S. Congressional districts according to where the Libyan communities are located, preferred social media platforms/websites/Facebook groups, any annual gathering or upcoming events, and any other information the intern deems significant.
|familiarity with the Middle East and North Africa|
Special skills: familiarity with the Middle East/North Africa, such as through travel, internships, or study would be a helpful. Arabic language skills would be useful, but not required.
Time needed for project: we envision this project to last at least a semester, but the intern would be welcome to start the research as soon as feasible.
