The Oregon Federal Executive Board (OFEB) is a small team covering a wide range of topics that touch our
federal community across agencies and at all levels, from emergency management to training to charitable
giving. We are looking for an intern with an interest in database development to help us complete our transition to the premier customer relationship manager platform in the field, Salesforce. We are lean, innovative group with a custom build designed to serve our very unique business case- coordination across federal agencies and engagement with federal senior leadership and workforce. This is your opportunity to understand Salesforce, and CRMs more generally, on a much deeper level than the average internship. This role is NOT primarily data entry- rather we are looking for an intern with the technical wherewithal to help us design the system back end to serve our needs, as well as help us design processes and procedures to ensure we are getting the most our of the system. We are a small team with direct access- you will not be fighting bureaucratic barriers, but will have full scope to work together with our Executive Director and shape the platform and our use of it.
Duties:
1. Develop queries and reports that meet our unique use case
2. Design fields and the overall interface to best serve our needs, while ensuring users with lower levels technical expertise can easily make full use of the platform by removing redundancies and confusing interfaces.
3. Working with the OFEB team, from Agency heads to other interns, design Standard Operating Procedures that will ensure the highest degree of data fidelity with minimal administrative burden
4. Explore disruptive uses of this powerful system, and make recommendations to the Executive Director on underutilized features or processes
5. Develop technical documentation and train others on the processes developed
6. And, yes, some limited data entry- it is a database system after all. But most of this work is already complete- what remains will largely be routine updates. |

The Oregon Federal Executive Board (OFEB) is a small team covering a wide range of topics that touch our
federal community across agencies and at all levels, from emergency management to training to charitable
giving. We are looking for an innovative, creative intern interested in exploring how design-centered thinking can be applied to disrupt the traditional and often too-stuffy realm of government communication. Our lean size and unique mission mean we have considerable leeway to explore tools and strategies, and are not constrained by the bureaucratic policies governing many large-agency programs. If you are interested in exploring what is new and exciting in the field, interested in the intersection of public service and the wider community, or enjoy exploring the process of innovation in the public space, this is the project for you!
Benefits: In this role you will have routine interaction with senior leadership across the federal community, from
the FBI to the Forest Service, from our local community partners to congressional delegations. If you have an
interest in the vocation of public service, and are interested in serving both your country and community, you
will find tremendous satisfaction and opportunity in this role. We believe in making things happen- come up
with a great idea, and we will find a way to realize it!
Key project elements include:
1. Managing OFEB social media accounts (facebook & Linked In) as well as exploring, making recommendations, and
implementing new social media platforms (Instagram, others).
3. Designing promotional materials & infographics to inform and promote OFEB programs to the federal workforce and beyond
4. Localizing content to emphasize the unique aspects of Federal Service in the region- everything we do connects us to our local community, and connects that community to the wider federal mission! Federal Lands and the ethos of the American West play prominently in our community, and we are looking to present a picture of the federal government in a local context that is compelling and invigorates the vocation of public service.
5. Work with the senior leadership of all the federal agencies in the region to emphasize, promote, and connect programs of interest to the wider inter-agency and local communities |
|
United States |
|
We would ideally have two interns working together on different aspects of our various campaigns. This role requires frequent checking-in to ensure new and fresh content is posted, and occasional longer self-directed design sessions. Someone who is self-led, great at multi-tasking, and interested in sharpening their leadership and collaboration skills is essential. |

Social Media Goals. The most important aspect of any social media marketing strategy is to set S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely) goals. Posting blindly and expecting to achieve massive amounts of new sales would be like cooking without the right ingredients and expecting perfection. We want to tell our story. We have video, audio, and photo footage that needs a remix. There are all sorts of other media-related projects & communications which can be done a lot better than we are doing right now. There are so many great stories of Feds helping Feds & Feds helping their communities, but we haven’t yet figured out how to convert all of the stories into storytelling.
1. Create a social media strategy using our website, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter
a. Written strategy encompassing platforms, content, timing, upkeep, timeliness
2. Video Production
a. Take our existing video and edit. Take raw footage and create short videos for upload to SFFEB YouTube channel.
b. Shoot new footage to create a what is the SFFEB video.
3. Written Spotlights
4. One-pagers have been created, they need to be reviewed and have a plan for use.
5. Website, www.sffeb.us
a. Building website content where underdeveloped (ie the page providing links to government‐wide mid‐level career development opportunities & programs (like the Mansfield Fellowship Program or the SFFEB's LDP program) or where pages are needing to be updated/added. We'd need to chat on how to do this within our context, but emphasis can be given to areas that would provide info on resources for disadvantaged communities (ie - government hiring programs targeting disadvantaged populations, linking to HCBUs or Federal Affinity Groups like 'Blacks In Government').
6. Presentation to the FEB Governing Council for input.

SFFEB executed two job fairs in 2019 and would now like to have VSFS interns develop a program for other agencies to replicate our program. Specifically, this project would incorporate best practices from SFFEB's job fair, identify other federal agency best practices from around the country, contact college career counselors for advice, develop a toolkit, checklist, suggested timeline, tasks, points of contact, and an implementation plan.
Tasks
1. Create a Job Fair Toolkit based on SFFEB information as well as other local federal agency job fair resources.
2. Gather needs from college career counselors for best practices.
3. Work with local BOREN universities and land-grant colleges for best practices.
4. Create non-compete eligibility one-pagers based on SFFEB template.
5. Come up with a suggested implementation plan.
6. Time permitting, implement plan.
7. Give a presentation to the FEB Governing Council for input.
