America's 30 million small businesses are the engine of our economy, creating nearly two out of every three new jobs in the United States and employing over half the Nation's workforce. The Small Business Administration’s mission is not only to provide support to these businesses, but to serve as a catalyst for American small business growth and empowerment. We meet this call to action with hard working and forward thinking team members building innovative technology, resources and programs so that American small businesses can continue to drive our economy and democracy forward.
SBA's Business Technology Solutions S team operates like a start-up within the agency. We're a small group of technologists and strategists—designers, product owners, devs, and content aficionados who are working to modernize the agency's presence. We're looking for an individual who is mission-oriented, an excellent communicator, has practical experience, and is eager to learn, lead, and do. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is a believer in the power of innovation manifested in people, process and technology. |

The SBA’s Innovation and Technology team is focused on helping diverse, talented entrepreneurs in science, technology, and innovation access seed capital to grow their businesses and the US economy. Our office supports and maintains a network of Innovation Ecosystem Supporters - engaging community-based organizations, business accelerators, state governments and academia to create programs and services that meet the needs of advanced technology entrepreneurs. One problem these entrepreneurs face is how to navigate not only local resources, but federal programs as well.
Interns will have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and join our small, highly motivated team to get involved with identifying who and how to improve the connectivity of this ecosystem. This is a great opportunity to develop experience in proven approaches to cultivate innovation, influence policy, become knowledgeable about best practices. The ideal candidate will share a sense of mission to positively impact entrepreneurs who are taking big risks and building next generation technologies.

- Develop datasets from public data like USAspending.gov of common organizations for entrepreneurial support across different agencies and programs
- Identify state/local initiatives that make use of Federal resources

We foster and encourage participation in innovation and entrepreneurship by all people, including women, people of color, people with disabilities, and entrepreneurs located in all 50 states and U.S. territories.
We are looking for people with a wide variety of skills, so if this opportunity sparks joy and your expertise differs from the skills above, you should still consider applying. Our team values diversity of backgrounds and experience, so we encourage you to bring your whole self to the role. |

The SBA’s Innovation and Technology team is mission-driven and focused on helping talented entrepreneurs in science, technology and innovation get access to seed capital to grow their businesses, and the US economy. Resources and access to capital are not reaching all Americans evenly, and the economic impacts of COVID-19 could increase this inequality. The best ideas can come from anywhere, but 80% of all venture capital (VC) investment has been concentrated in just three states, and in 2016, only 1% of VC dollars went to African American and Latino founders, and less than 2% went to female founders. Ensuring that access to resources and capital are available to all Americans is critical in creating a robust and dynamic workforce with inclusive growth, and ensuring the benefits of entrepreneurship accrue across the nation.
- Help strategize for effective messaging across outreach channels
- Research trends and make recommendations on topics to cover
- Identify partnership opportunities with organizations that support underrepresented communities
- Compile information on best practices for federal agencies as well as entrepreneur support organizations |
