The State Department's Global Engagement Center's messaging team supports local efforts to resist terrorism, terrorist recruiting and terrorist ideology through social media postings in Arabic, French, Somali and Urdu. Our East Africa team messages to help defeat al-Shabaab's terror campaign. As al-Shabaab has increased its efforts to recruit Kenyans and other East Africans, and as it continues to carry out terror attacks in Kenya, we want to expand our messaging by using authentic Kenyan voices to convey a message of resistance to terrorist ideology, resilience in the face of terrorist attacks, and choosing a better path.
You will search social media in Swahili to identify messages, videos, memes and other material that support this goal. You will summarize each relevant item in English, and translate selected items. You will also identify trends in social media conversation among different groups in Kenya and other Swahili-speaking areas.
This project is a great opportunity to build and show your knowledge of East Africa!
