Project Code: STATE-KEN-166
|Project Title||Connecting the Somali-American Community to American Citizen Services|
|Project Summary||Conduct research to identify common means of social networking and communication for the Somali-American community.|
|Agency||Department of State|
|Number of Interns||4|
U.S. Embassy Nairobi is responsible for providing Consular services to Somali-American citizens, but given the restricted security nature of Somalia, the Embassy often encounters difficulty reaching out to this community. The Embassy requires a virtual intern to research common means of communication and networking both within Somalia and to the Somali-American diaspora community in the United States. Working closely with Embassy staff, including Somali-Kenyans familiar with this community, the intern will research which websites, mobile applications, and online platforms the Somali-American community uses to communicate. The intern will compile their data into an easily searchable spreadsheet and will assist Embassy staff in conducting outreach to this community through means discovered during the intern’s research.
Familiarity with the Somali-American community preferred.
