Project Description

Do you have an eye for detail combined with Photoshop skills? Consider joining VA’s office of Digital Media Engagement as a design intern for the Operation Song project. Design interns are responsible for planning, designing, developing, modifying and completing visual information / graphic design projects for web-based visual media products which support the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The graphics communicate with Veterans, their family members, and the public on matters affecting their daily lives from health care and insurance to monetary compensation and suicide prevention. A major focus of this work will be on Operation Song. Through this office, a group of content creators work with Operation SongTM, a nonprofit organization based in Tennessee that uses musical therapy to help Veterans. Through this partnership, interns create blog posts highlighting Veterans who have written songs through the organization.

Additional Information

Design interns are expected to have a level of knowledge and experience using Adobe Photoshop.

Please view our blog to see the various graphics types our team produces. http://www.blogs.va.gov/VAntage/category/veteran/. If you are selected for this internship, this is the level of work you will be expected to produce. The Veteran of the Day, A Veteran’s Story, and Operation Song graphics were created almost exclusively by interns.

You will be expected to have your own computer and your own license for Adobe Photoshop as they will not be provided for a virtual internship. This has not seemed to be an issue for previous graphic design interns.

The Department of Veterans Affairs' Digital Media Engagement Team internship is one of the largest and most established internship programs available through the Virtual Student Federal Service. Last year, our internship had approximately 120 interns in various departments and leadership positions. If you want to join a team that is well structured and will offer meaningful work that will help you build skills that you can actually add to your resume, then you should definitely join our team.
