Project Code: VA-USA-34
|Project Title||WordPress Web Content Management|
|Project Summary||Help create innovative and inspiring web content produced by one of the most creative and successful digital teams in the U.S. government.|
|Agency||Veterans Affairs Department|
|Number of Interns||50|
The VA Digital Media Engagement Team’s Web Content Management Interns play an essential role in enabling online communications with important stakeholders interested in Veterans Affairs. Web Content Management Interns work with interns who produce online VA content (such as on the VAntage Point blog (https://www.blogs.va.gov/VAntage/)) by taking materials and synthesizing them into WordPress posts prior to official publication. Web Content Management Interns will take content that is created by other interns and format it in WordPress blog posts on the dmeinterns.org website. This content will then be exported for use on the official VAntage Point blog.
One of your major tasks will be to take content from Microsoft Word documents and ensure it is formatted properly for publishing in a blog post. You will add headings, import photos, add authors, tags, categories, featured images, alternative text, meta descriptions and any other aspects necessary to prepare content for publishing.
Prospective interns should have prior WordPress experience (especially creating and formatting blog posts), strong written communication skills, excellent teamwork skills, an understanding of VA's mission, and an understanding of web development (especially front-end web development). Prospective interns should familiarize themselves with the formatting of VAntage Point blog posts before applying.
The Department of Veterans Affairs' Digital Media Engagement Team internship is one of the largest and most established internship programs available through the Virtual Student Federal Service. Last year, our internship had approximately 120 interns in various departments and leadership positions. If you want to join a team that is well structured and will offer meaningful work that will help you build skills that you can actually add to your resume, then you should definitely join our team.
