|Project Title||Surrogacy – U.S. Solutions to a Chinese Problem|
|Project Summary||Research U.S. Surrogacy Laws and the China Network|
|Country/Region of Focus||China|
|Agency||Department of State|
|Number of Interns||1|
Embassy Beijing has seen dramatic growth in surrogacy services provided to Chinese citizens by American providers. With murky surrogacy laws in China, it’s more important than ever to understand the web of surrogacy laws in the United States along with the network that advertises these services in China. We are requesting an intern to develop a matrix of American surrogacy laws (both at the federal and, more importantly, state level). We also would like a chart on how Chinese citizens acquire these services (with a focus on California, New York, and Florida). Who are the providers? How are the services advertised in China? How are the services facilitated? We need a bright, capable, Mandarin-capable intern to help us better understand the surrogacy network.
