Project Description

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) administers nutrition assistance programs that benefit tens of millions of children, families, and the elderly every day. FNS’s Office of Program Integrity for Child Nutrition Programs (OPI) advances that mission by developing and testing new products and process reforms to improve program performance, reduce error, and ensure access to benefits by eligible participants. This internship is an opportunity to work alongside OPI’s creative team of policy analysts on a new web-based end-user application to strengthen the administration of FNS’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). OPI analysts are currently developing the application’s substantive content. You will collaborate with the OPI team on the application’s design and then write the code to bring the application to life. The goal is to build an intuitive, user-friendly product to help simplify a complex administrative process. Once finished, FNS will make the application available to hundreds of CACFP administrators across the country.

Additional Information

You will work closely with the USDA team, especially during the initial phase of the project when we’ll collaborate on the design of the application. The ideal candidate will have front and back end web application development expertise in JavaScript using only open source frameworks, libraries, and tools. You should be available for periodic video calls during business hours (east coast time) for the duration of the project. The USDA team is flexible and will schedule calls that accommodate your schedule.
