Want to know what life as an Afghan college student abroad is like? Since 2012, U.S. Embassy Kabul has provided over 150 full-tuition scholarships for Afghans at the American University of Central Asia, located in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. We want to know what their experiences have been like, what trends lead to their success, and what both the Embassy and AUCA can do better in managing the scholarship program.
During the first half of the project, interns will each conduct phone/Skype interviews of 20-30 Afghan AUCA students and alumni, producing a short profile summary on each student.
During the second half of the project, interns will compile and analyze the results, producing a research paper cataloguing their findings. As a culmination to the project, interns will present their findings virtually to U.S. Embassy Kabul Public Affairs and AUCA.
Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Data analysis experience and a strong proficiency with MS Excel and/or other statistical analysis tools desired. Not required, but a plus: experience mediating focus groups, experience with qualitative evaluations or techniques. Interns should have familiarity with online platforms like Skype and Zoom and be aware that interviews will need to be scheduled with the time difference in mind.
The virtual interns will work closely with U.S. Embassy Kabul's Public Affairs Section.
