The Office of the Historian provides historical analysis to Department of State employees in Washington and overseas based on the current policy needs of the Department. The VSFS student in this position will execute both short- and long-term projects on the history of U.S. relations with countries in the Western Hemisphere. This could include research in primary documents, building timelines of U.S. relations with specific countries, creating topical reading lists of secondary literature, and other tasks as assigned and based on your interests. In your application, please be sure to describe your experience with primary source research, secondary source research, and analytical or historical writing.

We're looking for applicants who can communicate in their applications that they are familiar with modern Latin American and U.S. history. They should also have strong critical thinking skills; a clear writing style; the ability to conduct online and library research; ability to analyze information and make historical arguments; and familiarity with how to cite their work.
