Project Code: STATE-KOS-88
|Project Title||Pristina Political and Economic Section Data Analysis|
|Project Summary||This project will aggregate, format, graph, and analyze a wide variety of data sets to inform analysis and research for the Embassy’s Political and Economic Section.|
|Agency||Department of State|
|Number of Interns||1|
The purpose of this project is to establish a data repository that the political and economic section can use to collect, format, graph, and analyze data relevant to research questions and policy making. The section requires a data set that is 1) easily accessible 2) standardized and formatted and 3) incorporates predefined graphs and charts relevant to profile areas.
With guidance from the mission, the intern will be responsible for updating, standardizing, annotating and adding to the existing database. The intern will identify historic data calls and predict future data needs based on those and on interviews with the section’s staff. The intern should be prepared to analyze the data and describe in narrative form trends and conclusions that can be drawn from the data and derived products. Examples of data products include: election results; Assembly composition analysis; budget execution at central and local levels; trade trends; unemployment analysis; comparison of different numbers for key figures (e.g., GDP growth); and air monitoring data.
The candidate should be able to identify and incorporate data from a variety of sources including: the World Bank; International Monetary Fund; European Bank for Reconstruction and Development; the European Union; Kosovo Ministry of Finance; Central Bank of Kosovo; Kosovo Statistics Agency; U.S. Census Bureau; and World Trade Organization.
Post will support the virtual intern via periodic phone calls and provide email support. Post will provide the intern with examples of data analysis used in past products, as well as templates for storing the data.
The project will likely span 10 weeks.
