The Office of the Historian provides historical analysis to Department of State employees in Washington and overseas based on the current policy needs of the Department. The VSFS student in this position will create reading lists and help conduct research on the history of U.S. diplomatic relations with a specific countries in Europe. Research is conducted in unclassified, publicly available Internet sources such as historic newspaper databases, online oral history collections, and online journal collections. eInterns will compile annotated bibliographies of their findings to lay the groundwork for future research, write short overviews of the history of U.S. relations with the countries on which they work, and will conduct other types of research as assigned. In your application, please descibe your experience with primary source research.
Familiarity with modern European history; ability to conduct online research; ability to analyze information and write briefing materials. Knowledge of a major European foreign language is helpful but not required.
