|Project Title||What's going on with lead in our nation's drinking water?|
|Project Summary||To collect information on source water and distribution factors that could potentially result to higher lead levels in our Nations drinking water.|
|Agency||Department of Agriculture|
|Number of Interns||1|
This project requires detailed information on what kind of factors present in the source water including ground and surface waters (e.g. physical/chemical properties such as minerals present contributing to the corrosiveness and pH of the water; pumps leaching lead; groundwater: well screens with lead packing collars; wells that were packed with lead shot or lead wool to prevent well head clogging) as well as factors present in the distribution system (e.g. lead transmission and distribution lines; lead solder used in copper and brass piping; service connections to homes built in the early 20th century; pumps leaching lead) could potentially result to higher levels of lead as a finished product in our drinking water. These factors could be either a single contributing factor or cumulative.
