|Project Title||Learn how to lead a team as a Department Head with the VA's Digital Media Engagement Team|
|Project Summary||In 2018, VA's VSFS internship had close to 150 interns on board. This year, we are likely to have even more. We have projects in areas of social media, graphic design, video production, writing, editing, researching and more. You can help manage all these projects by leading a team of your own!|
|Agency||Veterans Affairs Department|
|Number of Interns||50|
Department Head and Division Officer interns help the internship supervisor in managing the program. The VA's Digital Media Engagement team has a number of intern projects ongoing to serve American Veterans. Each project has multiple interns contributing to it. So many interns, in fact, that it is sometimes difficult to keep up with everything that is going on. This is where you come in.
We are looking for individuals with experience in project management or team leadership. You should be willing to assume responsibility for your assigned project area.
--->You are going to be leading a team of other interns. This will likely require that you devote more time than you might otherwise expect to. This is a LEADERSHIP role. You will be expected to lead your team. If you do not have the time necessary to devote to a leadership position, please do not apply for this position. This internship opportunity is for individuals who want to lead a team and are willing to devote whatever time is necessary to ensure that team's success.
Our Department Head interns are crucial for training new interns, answering questions, ensuring projects are completed in a timely manner, and coordinating special projects.
We currently have Department Head or Division Officer positions open in the following areas:
A Veteran's Story
Web Development and Content Management
Social Media Moderation
Social Media Scheduling
Please let us know which area(s) you are interested in managing. Please explain any experience you have in that specialty area, along with any management or leadership experience.
Department Head and Division Officer interns are also frequently given the opportunity to take on special projects and give feedback to help improve the internship program for future years.
Please do not sign up for this internship if you don't have the ability to commit to seeing it through. As a leadership position, dropping out of the internship will cause a great deal of disruption for those you are appointed to lead. You may find yourself in charge of a team of 15 to 30 people, so please plan accordingly. You will have to communicate with these individuals throughout the week to assign tasks, get updates for ongoing projects, and provide metrics for work completed. You may have to attend conference calls when possible (not often). This is a serious leadership position and you will be expected to treat it as such.
The Department of Veterans Affairs' Digital Media Engagement Team internship is one of the largest and most established internship programs available through the Virtual Student Federal Service. Last year, our internship had approximately 120 interns in various departments and leadership positions. If you want to join a team that is well structured and will offer meaningful work that will help you build skills that you can actually add to your resume, then you should definitely join our team.
