Project Code: STATE-USA-NEA-136
|Project Title||Improving Yemeni English Teachers' Skills|
|Project Summary||Help Yemeni English teachers learn conversational English so they can pass on skills to their students, by meeting with them virtually every week for an hour and talking about topics that they can present to and practice with their students.|
|Agency||Department of State|
|Number of Interns||3|
Given the huge demand, various English language centers have opened in different cities around war-torn Yemen; however, the qualification process to become an English language teacher is lacking in some areas. The ongoing conflict in Yemen has not helped, as native English speakers are now hard to find in the country. An intern will provide an excellent opportunity for a group of Yemeni teachers to enhance their conversational skills to better teach English language in their classrooms. Teachers will also gain knowledge about the United States’ culture and values.
You would have a chance to apply your expertise in English language teaching using idiomatic expressions, pop culture, history, and more, and be part of a unique virtual team working to help improve lives in a conflict zone.
