Project Description

In order to expand and improve the quality of virtual English language programs, RELO Pakistan seeks the support of The successful candidate will support RELO Pakistan to manage RELO Social Facebook page and closed FB Groups, promote RELO’s virtual programs, evaluate applications for competitive virtual programs, provide on-going support to virtual program participants, and engage with the alumni of RELO’s virtual programs. The incumbent will also participate in Facebook live/webinars, interact with the Pakistani public through live conversation exchanges, and help in the research on the impact of RELO virtual programs in Pakistan on English language learning and teaching. The successful candidate will be encouraged to bring his/her own ideas for content and programming.

Background on the Status of English Language Learning and Teaching in Pakistan and Status of RELO Virtual Professional Development Programs

English serves as the language of education from primary to tertiary levels in Pakistan. However, the Pakistani education system is still struggling in its relationship with English. The reasons range from unavailability of qualified English teachers, outdated pedagogical practices, sociocultural dynamics, and institutional weaknesses. The Pakistani English language teaching community has limited access to quality professional development opportunities to develop necessary English teaching skills required in a 21st century classroom.

In order to equip a large number of English language teachers (ELTs) with necessary skills for state-of-art English language education through continuous professional development, the Regional English Language Office (RELO) Pakistan offers wide range of face-to-face and virtual professional development opportunities. Given to the relatively challenging working environment, limited in-person outreach and high costs of in-person trainings, the RELO strives to provide professional development opportunities to the maximum number of ELTs through its virtual programs.

Since 2018, more than 3000 Pakistani ELTs have successfully participated in RELO offered virtual professional development programs, including ECA Funded and Post-Funded programs such as the E-Teacher Program and the American English Live Series. The popularity of RELO courses among the Pakistani ELT community is demonstrated through the 1) significant participation in our non-competitive programs like MOOCs and AE Live Series courses and 2) the hundreds of applications for our competitive programs like ECA Global Online courses and Post-funded Online courses. In order to support and engage Pakistani ELTs and expand Mission Pakistan’s virtual English language teaching professional development programs, RELO Pakistan maintains a strong social media presence through the RELO Pakistan Facebook page and numerous closed Facebook groups.
