The Regional Environment, Science, Technology, and Health (ESTH) Hub for the Pacific – based in Suva, Fiji – covers ESTH issues across twenty-one Pacific countries and territories. The Pacific Hub aims to promote regional cooperation, data-sharing, and adoption of sound policies by working with bilateral ESTH officers at embassies and consulates in the region as well as with other U.S. Government (USG) agencies. Externally, the Hub engages in ESTH diplomacy, cooperating extensively with nongovernmental organizations, and regional organizations on environmental activities within their region.ESTH issues play a critical and dynamic role in the Pacific region’s economic and political spheres and are a key area of engagement within our diplomatic relationship. Your principle task would be to conduct desk reviews on key policy and program topics in order to provide important background information and supporting analysis to officers. Example tasks could include reviewing the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) submitted by Pacific countries (under the Paris Agreement) or searching, compiling, and reviewing the projects in region related to marine debris/plastic pollution. The research could also expand into writing as time/interest allow. This internship is perfect for students interested in environmental and health policy and the Pacific region.
