Project Description

Some foreign countries have been aggressively expanding their influence in Belgium. We are seeking a virtual intern to use open-source media (news publications, social media sources) to track the interactions between the Belgian government, universities, and the private sector with representatives of foreign governments. You will track meetings; cultural exchanges; business collaborations; funding support mechanisms, grants, or partnerships; and construction or start-up projects in Belgium undertaken by specific foreign countries. Your compilation will lend itself to analysis for any signs of predatory economic practices or utilizing state assets to build an economic footprint in Belgium. You will look for trends in the types of investments or cooperative agreements utilized; the themes of advertising or social media campaigns mounted in Belgium; and the Belgian response to these engagements. The outcome of this virtual internship will be reporting, including graphs and charts if useful. French and/or Dutch language skills helpful. Skill with spreadsheets (Excel) and or database programs to collect and analyze data required.
