|Project Summary||Do you like the ocean? Do you like to listen to interviews about the ocean? Help make archived ocean radio programs accessible to deaf and hard of hearing people. Help make ocean audio content accessible by transcribing archived Ocean Currents radio programs hosted by sanctuary staff.|
|Agency||National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration|
|Number of Interns||1|
Do you like the ocean? Want to learn more about some interesting ocean topics? Archived ocean radio programs with themes about elephant seals, sex in the sea (how ocean animals reproduce!), climate change, and deep sea research are just a few of the topics you'll learn about while listening to the archived shows. We want to make these archived shows accessible to all people, especially those who are deaf and hard of hearing. To do that we need someone to listen and type what they hear into a template, spellcheck and "flag" words that are inaudible or not understandable to be filled in by your supervisor. There are about 20 episodes to transcribe. You will get to listen to interesting ocean content while you type into the program template provided by your supervisor. In addition, when you hear something unique and/or interesting, you can compose some tweets for the sanctuary to use in the future to promote the archived show/content on the sanctuary website. This helps more people to become aware about this fun ocean content and build their awareness about the ocean.
