|Project Title||Africa Regional Media Hub Media Monitoring and Support|
|Project Summary||Monitor media coverage of US Government in pan-African media, advise on opportunities to engage African social media audiences, and report on media engagements for the Africa Regional Media Hub|
|Agency||Department of State|
|Number of Interns||2|
VSFS interns are tasked with tracking and reporting on social and online media coverage of any high-level media interviews, press briefings or media advisories that the Hub coordinates or disseminates. Interns also do research for various on-going projects. For example, previous interns were heavily involved in research for a study of the Sub-Saharan African social media environment, the media landscape in Francophone African nations, and six month analysis of media sentiment on specific U.S.- Africa related topics such as development assistance, Africa Command, health initiatives, and economic programs.
Interns will review social media as part of the reporting and alert the Hub to any large-scale conversations taking place on the continent about the US Government and Africa.
There are many Francophone and Lusophone countries in Africa so a proficiency in either French OR Portuguese is desired but not required for our interns.
|Social media management|
Other desired skills include: strong internet research skills, experience with social media campaigns, data analysis, interest in the media, and knowledge and interest in U.S. foreign policy and sub-Saharan Africa.
