National Parks in Alaska - Geology and Ecology

Project Title National Parks in Alaska - Geology and Ecology
Project Summary We are seeking a student who is in Alaska or otherwise strongly interested in Alaska National Parks to help update our Geology and Ecology of the National Parks website. We don’t currently have any information on Alaska parks listed there, which is a travesty! Please help us fix this.

Project Description

People visit the USGS website looking for information about the geology and ecology of the National Parks they are visiting. In the past, they didn’t always find what they were looking for. There were lots of photos, and a few maps, but very little information explaining the geologic features or the local ecology (yes, USGS has a large ecosystems research focus). We have been updating our website with the help of VSFS interns for the last couple of years, but no one tackled Alaska parks yet. This year we are looking for a couple of people who know and love Alaska, and can contribute to either the geology or ecology sections of our website - one geology and one ecology student.

Additional Information

Mentors for this project will include the USGS education team, and scientists in our Anchorage Alaska office. We’d be particularly interested in students who are from Alaska or have spent a good deal of time there. Indigenous Alaskans are also encouraged to apply.
