Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, a little known ocean treasure off the coasts of Texas and
Louisiana, is home to the healthiest coral reefs in the whole Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. At only 56 square
miles, it's relatively small, but on the verge of expansion. In fact, a proposed rule for expansion was just released May 1, 2020!
Unfortunately, we face a challenge: while pretty much everyone knows what a national park is, very few people
are familiar with national marine sanctuaries, and even fewer know about the Flower Garden Banks sanctuary.
We're seeking a creative individual to develop and design images, posts, and other social media products that
can help people learn about this unique place, what it protects, and the science and recreational opportunities it
You'll collaborate with the social media coordinator to create Facebook and Twitter posts relevant to current
issues, events, and national recognition days to raise awareness of Flower Garden Banks National Marine
Sanctuary. With your help, we'd like to engage our social media audiences in new and exciting ways. We also
hope this opportunity provides you with a greater appreciation for how social media can support ocean
conservation and government initiatives.
