Weather and climate impacts are already undermining progress in reducing poverty and improving economic growth in countries around the world, as well as compromising the effectiveness and resilience of U.S. development assistance. To address this, USAID is implementing climate risk management (CRM): the practice of assessing, addressing and adaptively managing climate risks to development activities. An important aspect of CRM is the assessment of current and future climate risks and opportunities at various points during USAID’s program cycle.
As climate risk management is implemented, it is important to learn from the process and results so that improvements can be made. Likewise, it is important to stay abreast of new developments and innovative practices in climate risk management and risk management more generally, from theory to practice.
The Virtual Student will assist with assessing the quality and effectiveness of risk assessments and management and with research on climate risk management. The Virtual Student will synthesize results and findings, derive conclusions, and make recommendations to help improve the practice of managing climate risks at USAID.
