|Project Title||Distance English Teaching for English University Majors, Seniors in College in Ecuador|

|Agency||Department of State|
|Number of Interns||13|
This project is a pilot for the use of US-based assistance to support English education in Ecuador. Many of the English students will go on to be English teachers, and there is a great need for new English teachers in Ecuador. They are in a agricultural province with very limited chances to interact with native speakers. The US-based interns will be provided with idiomatic language material to facilitate conversations. Exact lesson plans are not required, but this could be good practice for students who plan to go into teaching. You will check in with me once a month to report on progress. Our coordinating counterpart in Ecuador is the Vice Prefect of Los Rios Province, the equivalent of a U.S. elected lieutenant governor. Plan on two one-hour segments per week via Skype.
Education in general with a focus on the teaching of English is one of the U.S. Government's highest priorities in Ecuador and a strong point of cooperation in our bilateral relationship.
