The Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS) Division of Quality and Health Outcomes (DQHO) partners with states to share best practices and provide technical assistance to improve the quality of care for beneficiaries. By working with states and other partners to eliminate disparities and improve patient safety, DQHO supports the development of quality improvement initiatives that impact nearly 72 million people who are enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP. To effectively measure and monitor the impact of these initiatives, it is necessary to have appropriate state-level data.
The intern will lead the state-level and national analysis of the publicly-available data sources (e.g., HCUP, BRFSS, MEPS, etc.) to explore key relationships between demographic, health and health outcomes among Medicaid, CHIP and Dual beneficiaries. This project is extremely flexible and can be tailored to fit the intern’s interests and career goals. The intern with will work closely with CMS subject matter experts to complete assigned work. Other projects that may support the student’s internship include:
• Supporting ongoing analytic projects to improve understanding of Medicaid beneficiaries aged 65 and older.
• Contributing the preparation of presentations, publications, and communication materials related to research on Medicaid beneficiaries.

The intern will have multiple opportunities for professional growth and development by participating in workshops, trainings and meetings focused on Medicaid and CHIP analytics, quality improvement and performance measurement.
