Through the MapGive initiative, the U.S. Department of State is working to improve the availability of high-quality, open geographic data to support humanitarian and development interventions across the world. The Department works closely with other organizations including Peace Corps, USAID, American Red Cross, the World Bank, and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) to build and improve OpenStreetMap - an open and editable map of the world. This is internship is for summer 2020 and has a shorter length compared to our traditional internships.The Intern will work in close coordination with the HIU’s GIS analyst to develop and enhance geo-referenced, relational datasets for use in supporting analysis and response to humanitarian crises. Duties will include:Requirements for the summer MapGive 2020 internship:• Complete condensed MapGive learning curriculum, including activities and writing assignments• Contributing to OpenStreetMap through the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team Tasking Manager. Intern will be required to spend at least 10 hours a month mapping and validating.• Participate in 3 virtual crowdsourced events, including follow-up assignments. The crowdsourced events will likely be 1) virtual Mapathon (iD Editor and JOSM) 2) MapRoulette micro-tasks (maybe JOSM validation too) and 3) Mapillary Observation challenge
