Project Code: L-NOAA-USA-20
|Project Title||Code Translator for Coral Reef Fish Data|
|Project Summary||Seeking an individual that thinks in code to bring our data out of SAS and into R|
|Agency||National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration|
|Number of Interns||1|
The National Coral Reef Monitoring Program monitors fishes and corals in the U.S. Atlantic jurisdiction (USVI, Puero Rico, Florida, Flower Garden Banks). Our site allocations (where we want to sample) and other analyses have been constructed in SAS. We are seeking an individual to translate our SAS code to R code. R is now readily used by the scientific community and it is important we modernize our methods and analyses on U.S. coral reefs to make them accessible.
The dataset that we work with is large and describes changes in reef fish and coral communities over time. This dataset has a fair number of nuances (as most do) so we are looking for a detail oriented individual. We want someone that isn't afraid to get into the coding weeds and is comfortable creating comments and functions to make the new code user friendly (to someone without any experience). Other coding opportunities are available if the translation of SAS code happens quickly.
