Project Description

Over the course of the October 7-9 weekend in select cities, coders will gather at Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)-accredited zoos to brainstorm and create the beginnings of promising apps and programs to address the scourge of wildlife trafficking. VSFS einterns will help in the final stages of preparation and in the follow-up to the Zoohackathon with logistics, promotion, and contact management. Wildlife trafficking is believed to be the 4th largest transnational crime in the world. Every continent in the world, and most every country, is a source, transit, and/or destination for trafficked wildlife. Interns starting in the fall of 2016 will help coordinate the final logistics of the hackathons at host sites near them in the U.S. and depending on their locations and professional backgrounds, may assist at the hackathons themselves.
