Since the start of his tenure, the UN Secretary-General (SYG) has made hundreds of official statements and comments to the press. While the SYG's role is ideally neutral, some of those statements appear to take positions in support of some nations over others, while not necessarily identifying a specific country. The Office of UN Political Affairs in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs (IO/UNP) desires a content analysis of the SYG’s official and press statements that assess the content to determine “favorability,” “un-favorability” or “neutral” to a given member (note: one statement could be both favorable to one member and unfavorable to another), focusing on statements that deal with issues important to the United States, Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Myanmar, Syria, and Venezuela (although this list may be expanded). In addition to a favorability analysis, IO/UNP would like a frequency analysis as well, indicating how often the SYG made statements about these countries.
