Internship Announcement
Thursday Luncheon Group

Join the Department of State’s efforts as an intern for the Thursday Luncheon Group to transform America’s foreign policy team to reflect the face of the nation! The Department of State is committed to increasing the opportunity for all Americans to contribute to and advance U.S. interests abroad, and this internship with the Thursday Luncheon Group directly supports this work. The Thursday Luncheon Group (TLG) is an employee affinity group that, since 1973, has been a forum for African-American foreign affairs professionals to build the presence and impact of a diverse and inclusion participation in the conduct of American foreign policy.

. The TLG Intern will support ongoing efforts of the TLG:

Disseminate information on diplomatic, professional, administrative, and leadership opportunities to the TLG foreign affairs community, including supporting TLG’s social media presence

Coordinate periodic domestic seminars and international conference calls of TLG membership

Manage TLG membership rolls

Draft and contribute to policy papers on foreign affairs and diversity/inclusion initiatives in the Department of State

Conceive, organize, and support programming for Black History Month, Foreign Affairs Day, and other TLG outreach

Maintain and expand relationships with other State Department and foreign affairs employee organizations and employee affinity groups.

The TLG Intern will work directly with the TLG Executive Leadership Board, comprising senior foreign service officers and professionals at all levels, and report to the TLG Vice President. The TLG Intern will work up to 12 hours per week, and the Leadership Board will supervise a substantive written project or study by the Intern, as agreed to meet any academic requirements.

The TLG Intern will need access to and mastery of the Microsoft O-365 software suite, including Outlook and MSTeams. The TLG Intern will be one of up to three students supporting the TLG mission. The TLG internship will last for a base term of one semester or term, with the option to agree mutually to extend to a second term or the summer.
